Lise Sinclair
1971 - 2013
Lise Sinclair, from Fair Isle, wrote in both English and Fair Isle dialect. She came from a well-known musical family, was a song-writer as well as a singer and poet, and performed in Shetland, Scotland and abroad. Her poetry appeared in the New Shetlander magazine, and appears in other publications e.g. White Below (Hansel Cooperative Press, 2010), and These Islands, We Sing; an Anthology of Scottish Islands Poetry, ed Kevin MacNeil (Polygon, 2011). Her poetry pamphlet here was published by North Idea in 2005.
In 2007 she released the album Ivver Entrancin Wis, a suite of music inspired by Shetland poetry, including Stella Sutherland's poem Da Guest's E'e.
The album A Time to Keep, by Lise Sinclair and Astvaldur Traustasson of Iceland, with songs and music inspired by George Mackay Brown's volume of stories of the same name, was released in March 2012.
