A great loss

Lise Sinclair of Fair Isle, poet, singer and songwriter, died in Glasgow on 4th August 2013, after a short illness. She was 42.

Lise had a warm, lively personality, and was richly talented. She travelled and performed in places as far apart as Estonia and Iceland, and collaborated with musicians and writers who were equally far-flung, as well as those in Shetland. Her writing was strong and distinctive, and when she wrote in dialect, as she often did, her voice was emphatically a Fair Isle voice. Her last performances were at the Folk Festival in May this year. Her untimely death has greatly saddened all who knew her.
