2013 Young Writer winners

Shetland Library's Young Shetland Writer of the year competition showed the future of Shetland dialect writing to be in good hands. A prize is always awarded to the best young writer in dialect, but this year the winning dialect entry, Haes du nae sock?, written by Julie Dennison of Brae High School, also gained her the title of joint Senior Young Writer of the Year.

In addition, the Junior Young Writer of the Year, Willum Tulloch of Sandwick Primary School, wrote his prize-winning story in dialect: Da trows dat didna want tae geen tae schule.

The winning stories appear on Shetland Library's website. Also, Willum's story will feature in the Hairst issue of the New Shetlander, published on Friday 20 September, and Julie's in the Yule edition in December.
