'White Below' launched on 7th May

'White Below', latest publication from Hansel Cooperative Press, is a collection of poems and stories inspired by Shetland's fishing industry.

The latest publication from Hansel Cooperative Press is White Below: poems and stories from Shetland's fishing industry. The idea for the book was John Cumming's, and the collection, based on research among the fishing community, features work by John himself, Laureen Johnson, Charlie Simpson, James Sinclair, Lise Sinclair and Mark Smith.

Much of the writing is in dialect. In his foreword, John Goodlad says,' These are stories and poems about Shetlanders and their relationship with the sea, and as such, it is right that they are written in the language spoken by the characters. The use of rich, descriptive and insightful dialect adds to the atmosphere and authenticity of the work.'

White Below was launched in the Boat Hall, Shetland Museum and Archives, on Friday 7 May, and is now on sale.
