Prize for dialect singing

3 Cunningsburgh Primary School lasses scoop the first ever prize for an entry of dialect song at this year's Schools Music Festival.

Cunningsburgh Lavericks Cunningsburgh Lavericks The first ever prize for an entry of dialect song at the Schools Music Festival was awarded to Cunningsburgh Lavericks.  On Thursday 11 March 2010, this new award donated by Shetland ForWirds was presented to the trio of P6 lasses fae Cunningsburgh.

The lasses take part in Maria Barclay Millar's after school dialect singing club, but formed the trio for the festival.  They scooped the prize with a rendition of Evergreen at Wednesday's competition in Lerwick.  They went on to entertain a packed Clickimin Centre at the Gala Concert on Thursday night singing Da Sang o da Papa Men.  At the culmination of the music extravaganza they were later presented by the framed certificate designed by Davy Cooper of Shetland ForWirds.

The Schools Music Festival this year was for primary school bairns and featured 10 entries sung in dialect.
