Mary onstage at Celtic Connections

Fiddlers' Bid feature Shetland poetry

On Saturday 2 February, Mary Blance became part of Fiddlers' Bid's stage performance at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, reading four Shetland dialect poems on themes to suit the music. Mary was thrilled to accept the band's invitation, despite confessing to being nervous. The poems they selected together were Mary's own poem of welcome to the 2010 Hamefarers, Mark Ryan Smith's  A medeetaishion apu lairnin d fidl, James Sinclair's Pinnishin, which has suggestions of folklore and the supernatural, and the classic Seine Netters, by Jack Peterson.
